Beginner Yoga with Kathleen Hinge


A very nurturing practice, which encourages mindfulness and promotes flexibility and relaxation. Classes include setting intentions, guided breathing and meditation and gentle pose sequences. Suitable for beginners, students new to the Center and those with physical limitations or recovering from injury.

Kathleen’s teaching features detailed instruction in safe alignment, informed by kindness and good humor.  She teaches yoga with the philosophy that growth and flexibility happen only with compassionate acceptance of our bodies as they are.

  • The in-person and online class are held in the South Church chapel live-streamed online via Zoom. In-person attendees will not be shown on camera during class.

  • In-person classes are limited to 15 attendees. The chapel is well ventilated with windows and fans.

  • Class will be broadcasted via Zoom, but in-person attendees will not be shown on camera during class.

  • Please note! You must register in advance whether you attend in-person or online.

Kathleen Conlon Hinge was the founding director of Yoga Shivaya in Tarrytown, NY for 13 years. She is a 500 hr Certified Yoga Teacher, a Reiki Master and a college professor. She has a PH.D in Mechanical Engineering. Kathleen Hinge teaches yoga with the philosophy that growth and flexibility happen only with compassionate acceptance of our bodies as they are. What’s more, by practicing compassion for ourselves, our hearts naturally open to greater compassion for others, bringing healing and peace into the world.

If you’d like to join us in-person, please read and follow our safety protocols.

You must sign a new waiver when you register, pledging to NOT attend if feeling unwell or if you have experienced any exposure to someone with Covid 19.

The correct entrance for Yoga students faces Broadway, and has double wooden doors with windows in them. When you arrive, come along the middle walkway to find these. The doors are unlocked.

Please be on time for the in-person classes! The studio is fully equipped with yoga props. You may bring your own yoga props. Should you choose to use any studio equipment, you may if you wish bring a towel to drape between you and any fabric props (bolster, blanket).

Sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer are available in the yoga room, hallways, and bathrooms.

We are a volunteer-run, not-for-profit community. Your willingness to step in, volunteer and help the teachers put away props and reset the chapel for classes and events is most appreciated.
